An introduction to our step by step ad production process.
Our ad production service covers the flight-checking of supplied artwork through to proofing and digital data delivery. Our expertise in colour management, including custom separations and proofing, allows us to precisely control colour accuracy throughout the ad production process. SeparationIt is important that, wherever possible, we are supplied with RGB master files. Often we are suppled with CMYK files that are poorly separated or have been unsuitable for the destination printing process. It is bad practice to perform a generic conversion in Photoshop but unfortunately many suppliers are unaware of this and produce substandard CMYK files. We separate every image to match the destination press or printing process. Where necessary (or on special request) we have the expertise to produce custom profiles to get the maximum from your images. We had to do exactly that for the campaign above (Ellen von Unwerth for David Morris). These monochromatic images would suffer if the printer loses control of gray balance during the CMYK printing process. Our custom profiles are designed to generate a long and wide black plate whilst minimising cyan, magenta and yellow in neutrals. This dramatically reduces the chance of the image developing a colour cast during printing whilst maintaining the depth of the original image.
Artwork ManagementOnce we have completed our separations we then replace the images in the supplied artwork with our new ones. In order for these to look as good as possible when printed, we will resize the images to fit the layout before sharpening them and placing them in the artwork. We do this individually for every artwork from our master copy so that the image is of the best possible quality when it is reproduced and that the adjustments made to the image are done only with the specific advert involved.Once the images are in place we undergo a systematic check of the document before producing a print ready PDF. Print Ready PDFOur PDFs are again generated specifically for the required printing process. We maintain our colour accuracy throughout including colour management of our PDFs by assigning our specialised profiles. This provides the client with the comfort of being able to trust the output. We then undergo a final separation check before flight checking the PDF. ProofingThe PDF is then proofed with our FOGRA-certified proofing system to exacting ISO Standards. For further information see hereThese proofs are then supplied to the client alongside the PDF so that they have a visually accurate representation of the resulting printed article. This exacting process from generation to proofing guarantees the client accurate outputs and hence a confidence that the maximum has been done to provide successful results in the print process. |
